El día concentra, en esta zona, gran parte del universo administrativo y financiero de la ciudad. Pero por la noche, las luces descubren cines y teatros (principalmente sobre la Avenida Corrientes y la Peatonal Lavalle), restaurantes, pubs, comercios, bingos y cabarets. Desde la Plaza de Mayo se reparten hitos históricos del país, como la sede del Poder Ejecutivo Nacional (Casa Rosada) y el Cabildo (1725), cuna de la administración de la ciudad en la época colonial que ahora funciona en el Palacio de Gobierno. También, se destaca la Catedral Metropolitana (Siglo XVIII), de estilo neoclásico, donde se encuentra el Mausoleo del Libertador José de San Martín. Por la Avenida de Mayo, uno de los conjuntos urbanísticos y arquitectónicos más logrados de la ciudad, se llega al Palacio del Congreso (1906), de belleza inapelable y donde sesionan la Cámara de Senadores y la de Diputados. Sobre la Avenida 9 de Julio, la más ancha del mundo, está enclavado el Obelisco (65 m. de altura, construido en 1936) y, a unas cuadras de a11í, se puede conocer el Teatro Colón (1908), considerado el de mayor envergadura en América Latina. La variedad de actividades, espectáculos y entretenimientos, hace que en forma constante transiten por la zona miles de personas.

Downtown and Congreso neighborhood Daytime concentrates in this area most of the administrative and financial universe of the city. But a night, the lights uncover movie theaters and theater (mainly on Corrientes Avenue and Lavalle Street), res taurants, pubs, stores, bingos and nightclubs. It's from Plaza de Mayo that some of the bistori milestones of the country spread out, such as the seat o the National Executive Power (Pink House) and the Old Town Hall (1725), cradle of the city administration in the colonial time that at present has its headquarters in the Government Palace. The Metropolitan Cathedral (XVIII Century), of neoclassic style, and where the Libertador General San Martin Mausoleum is located, also stands out. Going down Avenida de Mayo, one of the best achieved architectonic and housing wholes of the city, one gets to the Congress Palace (1906), of unquestionable beauty and where the Senators and Deputies Chambers hold their sessions. The Obelisk (65 meters high, built in 1936) is embedded in 9 de Julio Avenue, the widest in the world and, a few blocks away, one can see the Colon Theater (1908), considered the most important in Latin America. The wide variety of activities, shows and entertainment, makes thousand of people walk along this area at all times.
